The Story Behind PureLayer
One of the first products that began shaping PureLayer's future.
PureLayer exists to bring together thoughtful design, engineering, and plant science.
Every product begins with a simple belief: plant care should be functional, beautiful, and built to last—not treated as disposable.
What started as designing small-batch plant accessories has gradually evolved into something much bigger: a long-term vision to create accessible growing systems and plant technology for everyday growers.
🌿 Built through curiosity
Exploded view of the low-cost hyperspectral imaging platform that first introduced me to CAD design and product engineering.
I never formally studied product design.
I taught myself CAD while working as a plant disease researcher, redesigning and manufacturing components for a low-cost hyperspectral imaging system capable of detecting plant diseases before visible symptoms appear.
That experience completely changed how I think about design. Every curve, vent, thread, and material choice has a purpose. Small improvements in engineering can completely transform how something performs.
Those same principles now shape every PureLayer product.

🪴 More than plant accessories
An early concept of the PureLayer Hydro Tower, exploring the future of modular indoor growing systems.
Today, PureLayer designs products for propagation, hydroponics, moss poles, humidity control, and indoor plant care.
Rather than creating products simply to expand a catalogue, each design acts as a stepping stone towards a larger vision.
Projects such as the Hydro Tower represent the next stage of this journey—moving beyond accessories towards complete growing systems designed from first principles.
🤝 Collaboration through engineering
Collaborating with Iccarus Engineering to develop products for efficient and scalable manufacturing.
Great products are rarely created in isolation.
As PureLayer grows, I work alongside specialists who bring expertise beyond my own. One of these collaborations is with Iccarus Engineering, where we collaborate on Design for Manufacture (DFM), helping transform ambitious concepts into products that can be manufactured efficiently while preserving the original design intent.
Combining scientific research, engineering, manufacturing expertise, and practical experience allows PureLayer to develop products that are not only visually distinctive, but also practical to manufacture and built to last.
⚙️ Designed to evolve
Every iteration is an opportunity to improve design, usability, and manufacturability.
Unlike mass-produced products that rarely change, PureLayer products are intentionally produced in small batches.
This allows every design to be tested, refined, and continually improved through customer feedback, practical experience, and advances in manufacturing.
The goal isn't to release as many products as possible.
The goal is to keep making better ones.
♻️ Looking ahead
Exploring recycled materials that balance sustainability with performance, durability, and thoughtful design.
As PureLayer grows, one of my priorities is to increase the use of recycled and more responsible materials wherever they can meet the performance requirements of our products.
I don't believe sustainability should come at the expense of durability. The goal is to create products that people keep using for years—not products that need replacing after a season.
I'm also passionate about collaborating with local manufacturers and skilled artisans, combining modern digital design with traditional craftsmanship to create products that are practical to manufacture, thoughtfully engineered, and built to last.
Every design decision is guided by the same philosophy: reduce waste through better engineering, longer-lasting products, and continual refinement rather than unnecessary replacement.
🌱 The long-term vision
PureLayer is still at the beginning of its journey.
My ambition is to build more than a plant accessories brand. I hope to create affordable plant-health technologies, modular growing systems, and beautifully designed products that help more people grow healthier plants with confidence.
Every product released today is another step towards that future.
PureLayer is a journey of continuous learning, thoughtful engineering, and a belief that great design can make plant care simpler, more enjoyable, and more accessible for everyone.
Thank you for following the journey.
Whether you've purchased your first PureLayer product or you're simply curious about where the brand is heading, I'm genuinely grateful you're here.
